Around 100 employees, senior management, and leaders of MUFG Bank, participated in the event titled “Caring for Wetlands, Caring for Me: A CSR Activity of MUFG Bank Philippines” at the Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) on November 18, 2023. The event, facilitated by the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, Inc. (SCPW), featured a coastal clean-up, a learning session, and a wetland walk in the area.
Following the coastal clean-up which was guided by the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) officers and staff of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – National Capital Region (NCR), a brief program was conducted. Mr. Takeshi Hashida, Country Head for MUFG Manila, delivered an opening message for the event, acknowledging the privilege and obligation of the bank to contribute to welfare, with a particular emphasis on sustainability for a healthier and brighter future for the Philippines. Ms. Amy Lecciones, Executive Director of SCPW, also gave a message expressing her deepest gratitude to MUFG for their initiative to support environmental causes, especially the works of SCPW. She underscored the importance of raising awareness, complementing coastal clean-up efforts for more impactful and sustainable outcomes.
A lecture about wetlands, covering their importance, threats, and concepts for conservation and wise use, was presented by Ms. Darry Shel Estorba from SCPW. Subsequently, Ms. Maria Angela Noble, Park Officer from PAMO-DENR, discussed the brief profile of the LPPWP. This was followed by a wetland walk around Freedom Island, including a visit to the mangrove areas and boardwalk.
The MUFG Bank also gave a donation to SCPW, demonstrating their commitment to promoting the wise use and conservation of Philippine Wetlands. MUFG also contributed to the cause by giving their trash picker tools and gloves to the park.
