On 20-22 July 2023, the SCPW will be conducting another capacity-building activity that will focus on nature-based solutions/ constructed wetlands and their role in wetland management. The training will be conducted at Pangil, Laguna which is the site of LLBCP’s Frontrunner Initiative 2. It will be composed of lectures and learning sessions about wetlands conservation and management, nature-based solutions, and constructed wetlands/green filters.
There will also be a survey and focus group discussions with the local community to determine the social acceptability of this technology. In addition, there will be a section in the training where a demonstration on how to culture Effective microorganisms (Bokashi) to ensure adequate supply for the Constructed Wetland as well as for use of local communities in their homes. The training will be blended with the activity of another NbS-related SCPW project titled “Integrated assessment of existing practices and development of pathways for the effective integration of nature-based water treatment in urban areas in Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Vietnam”. This project is funded by the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) with RMIT University as the Lead, and researchers from three Asian countries namely Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and the Philippines as partners.
This learning event is primarily aimed at promoting the social acceptability of Constructed Wetlands (Green Filters) among the local communities in order to secure its successful operation at the Pangil River Eco-Park.
