The Society for the Conservation of Philippines Wetlands launched its 4th Wetland Center Design Competition last May 29, with a Design Symposium entitled “Build Back Biodiversity: Wetland Centers and Nature-Based Architecture” at the MAAX Building 11F Auditorium, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
The program included messages from Ms. Rida Reyes Castillo, AVP and Head of Marketing, Communcations, and Public Relations of SM Prime Holdings, Inc; Dr. Arvin C. Diesmos, Director of the Biodiversity Knowledge Management Division of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity; Arch. Celestino Ulep, President of the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands; and Mr. Gleo Raymundo of the United Architects of the Philippines.
The symposium speakers and their talks were the following:
- Mr. Chris Rostron, Global Head of the Wetland Link International & Wetlands and Wildlife Trust (London, UK), “Wetland Centers as CEPA tool for wetland conservation”.
- Arch. Celestino B. Ulep, President of the SCPW, “Introduction to Nature-Based Architecture”.
- Arch. Aaron Julius M. Lecciones, Board of Trustee Member of the SCPW and Assistant Professor at the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines, Diliman, “Designing the Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park”.
- Ms. Amy M. Lecciones, Vice President and Executive Director of the SCPW, “The SCPW Wetland Center Design Competition”.
The competition rules were presented by LArch. Kristofferson P. Reyes, member of the SCPW Design Team. A lively Open Forum was facilitated by Dr. Ma. Catriona E. Devanadera, SCPW Design Team Member and Associate Professor at the College of Human Ecology, UP Los Baños. Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Simplicia A. Pasicolan, Board of Trustee Member of the SCPW.
