The Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) celebrated World Wetlands Day on 24 February 2018 at the Las Piñas – Parañaque Critical Habitat and Eco-Tourism Area (LPPCHEA). The event was opened by a short program at The Wave, and this was followed by many activities such as coastal clean-up and nature exposure walk.
The Society of the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands was one of the many groups who joined the celebration.
LPPCHEA is one of the seven wetlands in the Philippines listed by the Ramsar Convention as Wetland of International Importance. This 175-hectare protected area is located at the southwest portion of Metro Manila and Manila Bay. With this year’s WWD theme “Wetlands for Sustainable Urban Future”, it was very appropriate that World Wetlands Day be celebrated at LPPCHEA. Urban wetlands are areas where people can experience connection with nature and thus improve overall health and social integration.
