Youth-in-Action for Disaster Risk Preparedness and Reduction:
Resilience and Adaptation Strategies by the Youth

The project endeavored to help reduce the disaster risks faced by the municipalities of Mabitac, Pila and Rizal through increased community participation and youth involvement. It is being implemented through United Nations – World Food Programme’s Disaster Preparedness and Response Programme in the province of Laguna.

Community DRR and CCA Meeting-Consultation

After the Youth Ecological Camp, the action plans and pilot projects/activities were presented by the youth teams in a Community Meeting to solicit the support of the community, including the local government authorities and other community leaders, parents, school administration, teachers and fellow students.

Community Meeting for Mabitac

Held on 28 April 2014 at the Municipal Hall of Mabitac and was attended by high school students and teachers from four participating schools, and representatives from the local government.
Eco-camp group officer led the presentation of the details of the main project of the group, which is to conduct a municipal-wide youth ecological camp.

 

Community Meeting for Pila

Held on 28 August 2014 at Pila Central Elementary School.

 

The community meeting was also attended by the barangay officials.

 

 

Community Meeting for Rizal

Held on 20 June 2014 at Cristobal S. Conducto Memorial National High School.

 

Attended by high school students and teachers, and parents/guardians of students. Also present were representatives from the local government offices.

 

Sharing their learnings from the ecocamp, the campers discussed the Seven Environmental Principles and provided examples that can be applied in everyday life to help conserve the environment.
